Religious Education (RE) at Beech Grove School is taught as required, in agreement with Middlesbrough Agreed Syllabus. RE plays a vital role in combating prejudice, challenging stereotyping and encouraging respect. It also plays a positive role in celebrating and understanding cultural and religious diversity across the world.
Time allocation
RE should be taught throughout the key stages.
KS1: 36 hours per academic year
KS2: 45 hours per academic year
At Beech Grove, RE may be taught weekly, although occasionally, it may be more appropriate to teach RE in a concentrated block of time.
These time allocations do not include Collective worship as this is not part of RE.
Right to withdraw pupils
The 1988 Education Act confirms the right of withdrawal from RE. Parents have the right to withdraw their children from all or part of RE lessons without stating reasons for withdrawal. Children who are withdrawn will work with a partner class.

Collective Worship
Collective worship is a time when groups/key stages meet together to discuss, consider and reflect on common issues, concerns and interests. It provides a time for children’s moral, spiritual, social and cultural development. Collective worship is inclusive allowing all children to take part.
Our aim is that this is a time when our school community can celebrate achievements and special times, discuss aspects of the world we live, share common aims and values and develop our school community spirit.
