Carl Warner is best known for creating pictures made from food. The children looked at examples of his artwork, discussed what the images showed and identified the foods used. They then used his work as inspiration to create their own food art.

This week in DT, AS1 have been learning a range of stitches, including running stitch, cross stitch, and blanket stitch. The children then chose their favourite stitch, designed a piece of fruit to create as an appliqué, and produced their own appliqué with added embellishments.

During Bucket Time this week, the children investigated static electricity. They created a tissue paper figure and secured his feet to paper using glue. After charging a balloon by rubbing it on their clothing or hair, they held it above the figure and observed how the static caused the man to lift and move. |

This week in PSHE, we explored the word persevere. We discussed what it means, how to work towards our goals, and the importance of continuing even when tasks feel challenging. We also reflected on who we find easy or more difficult to work with and learned how working collaboratively with others can support our learning. We worked as a group to discuss the different ways we could complete our goals together.

This week during Singing Assembly, AS1 requested their own songs. They participated in the KS1 assembly, joining in with the actions and lyrics, and demonstrated a strong sense of rhythm. |

This week, we held our Winter Stay & Play session. The children proudly shared what they have been learning this half term with their parents and carers and took part in a range of winter themed activities. We finished the session by coming together to sing some Christmas carols. |

This week in Art, the children explored the primary colours. They experimented with black and white to create lighter and darker shades, developing their understanding of colour mixing. Through these activities, the children built key skills such as observation, fine motor control, creativity, and the ability to follow instructions while expressing their own ideas. |

This week in Poetry Week, AS1 explored lots of fun activities to help them enjoy and understand poetry. We read and shared poems by Michael Rosen, talking about the patterns, rhythms, and playful language he uses. The children also practised identifying rhyming words and had a go at spotting rhyme in different poems. We learned a simple, well-known poem ‘Who Took the Cookie from the Cookie Jar?’ and worked together to find the beat in the poem. The class joined in using instruments to keep the rhythm whilst reciting the poem.

This week in Science, AS1 have been looking at objects and materials that stretch, twist, bend and squish. We explored the objects to find out how some materials can be change shape when they are squashed, bent, twisted and stretched. |

This week AS1 have been learning about the charity Children in Need. This year’s theme is ‘Challenge Yourself to 25’. AS1 have been given 25 challenges to complete in order to raise money for Children in Need.

This week in PE, the children practised travelling across a bench in different ways, balancing, and jumping safely from a height. They learned to move with control by trying skills such as walking, side-stepping, and crawling along the bench before holding simple balance positions and then finishing with a two-footed jump onto a soft mat. These activities help develop important physical skills such as coordination, strength, and body awareness. |

This week, the children baked pirate biscuits ready to decorate at the Autumn Stay & Play. The children were great at measuring the ingredients, they had great listening and followed the recipe carefully.

This week the children have designed and made their own pirate vehicles. They had different purposes for making their vehicles; some children wanted to transport treasure, transport pirates across the island and some wanted their vehicle to move through water. The children chose to use fixed/rotating axles and fixed/rotating wheels, adding their own extra features and decorations. |

This week the children have been celebrating and learning about the 200th anniversary of the modern railway. This young lady chose to create her own artwork of a train in her independent learning. |

This week in RE, the children have been learning that Shabbat is an exciting and important day that Jewish people look forward to all week. It happens every weekend, beginning on Friday evening, and ending Saturday evening. The children discussed Shabbat and sorted activities that are and are not allowed during Shabbat. |

This week the children have been discussing rules and responsibilities. We have been thinking about the rules we have in school and at home, and how we can help everybody by having our own responsibilities. Some of the children were able to talk about how they can help by tidying up their toys, looking their pets and keep each other safe. |

This week the children have been listening to music and finding the pulse using their body. The children had great rhythm and used their instruments to find the beat. |
