Summer Term 2021

Head Teacher Message
On behalf of the staff we would like to thankyou for your fantastic efforts during the Spring Term lockdown due to the global pandemic of Covid19. The way, with your tremendous support that our children accessed their remote learning package via See-Saw was absolutely wonderful to see. You all deserve an even bigger medal than last time!

As you know the school staff worked tirelessly around the clock to provide the children with the high-quality work that they needed.
However, nothing can beat face to face teaching with children learning in a real classroom environment.
So, it gives me ENORMOUS pleasure to welcome you all back to the Summer Term.  Lets all hope that we can finally get back to some sort of normality.

I hope that you have all had the chance to relax and recharge your batteries during the Easter holidays. It is so important that our children now attend regularly to catch up the ‘missing months’ since January. I’m positive with your continued support and our excellent teaching, our children will continue to achieve well and try their very best in all lessons.

I am so proud of them all and the way they have started back this Summer term. Their resilience and hard-working attitude astounds me.
As always, our teachers have lots of interesting activities planned for this term and hope that you will enjoy hearing what children have been working on at consultation meetings (via the telephone), and will support them with their homework and reading outside of school. Reading remains the key to everything! Please, please, please encourage them as much as you can with their reading at home. It’s greatly appreciated.

Our work for this term

In English, AS2 are reading Cool by Michael Morpurgo. They will be looking at non-fiction writing, particularly newspaper reports. We will look at features of newspaper reports and developing this style of writing. They will also be developing their skills in narrative writing, making sure that they write character descriptions that engage their reader and focus on a variety of character aspects. We are continuing to focus on developing our sentence structure, extending our use of adverbial phrases and understanding how to develop dialogue within our writing.

In maths we are learning more about multiplication and division, and we are then going onto learning about fractions and decimals. We are also working hard at developing our arithmetic skills and strategies. We continue to develop our reasoning and problem solving skills.

In Science, we are looking at sound, and exploring how we hear.  For the second half term, we will be learning about ‘Potions’.

For the first half term, we are working on ‘Traders and Raiders’ which is all about the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings. We will be exploring their lives, culture and key events.

Keeping Safe and Healthy (This section will tell you what we are teaching children about lifestyle choices)
We will continue to look at citizenship and democracy through our Student Council votes and other choices we make in school. We will be looking at medicine safety in Potions, and we will be continuing our focus on digital safety and keeping ourselves safe.
