Spring Term 2018

Head Teacher Message
Happy New Year everyone and welcome to spring term 2019. The time has flown since children started their new classes in September.
On behalf of the staff I would like to wish everyone a happy return after the Christmas break and hope that 2019 is a good one for our whole school community.

This term we hope to pick up where we left before Christmas with our children achieving great progress within their core subject areas, due to the tremendous hard working attitude of them and the dedicated staff team here at school.
Children’s classroom and corridor manners were amazing which created such a lovely atmosphere around school. I was immensely proud of all of the children. In fact I was bursting with pride!!

This term we will also be hoping for some lovely spring sunshine so that children can make full use of our Secret Garden in lesson time and maybe plant some wonderful spring flowers for us all to enjoy (even the ducks!!!)

Our teachers have lots of interesting activities planned for this term and hope that you will enjoy hearing what children have been working on at consultation meetings, and will support them with their homework and reading outside of school.

We also hope that every effort is made by you for every child to attend school regularly. It is so important for your child’s development that we can’t stress that enough. (96% and above is GOOD attendance)

Here’s to a really positive spring term!

Our work for this term

In the first half term the children will have the opportunity to write reports and character descriptions based on The Iron Man read in class. The children will develop their ability to write longer pieces, including speech, paragraphing and use of rich and varied language.
In the second half term we will be reading and writing in a variety of forms. This will include poetry and stories based on the River Tees.

This term we will be using formal written methods for subtraction and addition. We will also continue our work on multiplication and division calculations. The children will be practising their times tables regularly. Children are expected to begin to learn their 4 and 8 times tables. We will also continue to practise the 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables too.

Our topics this term are ‘Mighty Metals’ and ‘Rivers’. In the first half term, in Mighty Metals, we will be investigating the link our town has to metal and what made it so great. There will also be a chance to find out about magnets and forces.
During the second half of the term the children will learn about the River Tees with a focus on geography and art.

Keeping Safe and Healthy (This section will tell you what we are teaching children about lifestyle choices)
Over the term the children will be discussing how we keep ourselves safe at home. We will be discussing ‘Stranger Danger’ in various contexts and learning about being safe in various settings. We will also be involved in pedestrian training.
