Autumn Term 2018
Head Teacher Message
Welcome back to our new school year. On behalf of the staff I would like to wish everyone a happy return and hope that 2018/19 academic year is a good one for our whole school community. As last year we hope that with your help we will achieve our fundraising target of £4,000. This will once again enable us to send all of our children on a free summer trip which they will thoroughly enjoy! Our teachers have lots of interesting activities planned for this term and hope that you will enjoy hearing what children have been working on at consultation meetings, and will support them with their homework and reading outside of school.
Our work for this term
This term we will be concentrating on developing and improving basic sentence writing skills. We will be writing character descriptions and descriptions of settings. We will be sending home weekly spellings to practise at home. Spelling will be tested each Friday. Reading books will be sent home. Please support your child by sharing the book with them at home and writing a short comment in the Home Reading diary.
Handwriting with correct letter formation will be a focus.
This term in Maths, we will be learning about Place Value, Addition and Subtraction, Multiplication and Division, Fractions, 2and 3D shapes, and measuring as part of our topic.
We will be continuing to use Rapid Recall daily, to improve mental maths skills.
Children will be encouraged to learn tables of 2’ 5 and 10, progressing to 3 times.
We will be supporting and encouraging children to justify their answers and explore different ways of working out answers.
The topic for the first term is Me and you, you and me. As the title suggests we will be finding out about ourselves. We will be investigating our senses, looking at our own physical development, taking about changes past, present and future.
We will be looking at seasonal changes as we approach Autumn and then Winter.
After half term, the topic will be After Dark. We will be reading and listening to stories about animals, and finding out about nocturnal animals.
We will be finding out about the origins of Bonfire Night.
We will be finding out about celebrations in different cultures, such as Diwali and Christmas.
Watch out for details about this year’s Christmas Production.
