Summer Term 2018
Head Teacher’s Message
Welcome back to our new summer term. Our teachers have lots of interesting activities planned for this term and hope that you will enjoy hearing what children have been working on at consultation meetings, and will support them with their homework and reading outside of school.
Many thanks to everyone who supported our fundraising efforts. We are very close to our target of £4,000 and you should soon be hearing about the free summer trips your children will be enjoying!
Our work for this term
We will be listening to and reading mainly fiction books. We will continue to learn weekly spellings to help us become more fluent writers. We are learning how to use question marks and exclamation marks in our writing. Good handwriting is important so we are learning how to correctly form all letters ready to start joining. We will be learning some poems off by heart.
We will be continuing to improve number skills, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, including fractions. We are learning to tell the time to o clock, quarter past and to and half past. Please practise this at home. We are also improving the knowledge and speed of the 2,5 and 10 times tables. These can be practised at home.
We will be learning to measure length, weight and capacity accurately.
Bright lights, Big city. This topic will focus on Geography. We will be finding out about the British Isles and about London, through the book Katie in London. We will be looking at landmarks in London, making models and drawing them. We will be finding out about some historical events such as The Great Fire of London.
Safeguarding (What we are teaching children to help them keep safe)
We will be learning about healthy food options and planning a healthy picnic. Internet safety continues to be a focus.
We will be learning about the importance of personal hygiene.
We will practise staying safe wile out and about including crossing the road safely.
