Spring Term 2018

Head Teacher Message
Happy New Year everyone and welcome to spring term 2019. The time has flown since children started their new classes in September.
On behalf of the staff I would like to wish everyone a happy return after the Christmas break and hope that 2019 is a good one for our whole school community.

This term we hope to pick up where we left before Christmas with our children achieving great progress within their core subject areas, due to the tremendous hard working attitude of them and the dedicated staff team here at school.
Children’s classroom and corridor manners were amazing which created such a lovely atmosphere around school. I was immensely proud of all of the children. In fact I was bursting with pride!!

This term we will also be hoping for some lovely spring sunshine so that children can make full use of our Secret Garden in lesson time and maybe plant some wonderful spring flowers for us all to enjoy (even the ducks!!!)

Our teachers have lots of interesting activities planned for this term and hope that you will enjoy hearing what children have been working on at consultation meetings, and will support them with their homework and reading outside of school.

We also hope that every effort is made by you for every child to attend school regularly. It is so important for your child’s development that we can’t stress that enough. (96% and above is GOOD attendance)

Here’s to a really positive spring term!

Our work for this term

English
We will be listening to and reading mainly fiction books. We will continue to learn weekly spellings to help us become more fluent writers. We are learning how to use question marks and exclamation marks in our writing. Good handwriting is important so we are learning how to correctly form all letters ready to start joining. We will be learning some poems off by heart.

Maths
We will be continuing to improve number skills, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, including fractions. We are learning to tell the time to o clock, quarter past and to and half past. Please practise this at home. We will be learning to identify shapes by their properties. We will be solving money calculations.

Topic
Towers, Tunnels and Turrets. We will be finding out about the history of castles. We will be using this opportunity for some model making and construction, looking at how to strengthen our buildings. We will be looking at some of the greatest towers in the world and placing them on a world map. We will also be looking at other structures like bridges and important tunnels of the world.

Keeping Safe and Healthy (This section will tell you what we are teaching children about lifestyle choices)
Our second half term topic is Messy Mixtures. In this topic we will be finding out about safe/unsafe liquids, Healthy Eating and how exercise helps to keep us healthy.
We will be looking at the importance of staying safe on line.
